when i first started attending the kh i was newly married and had moved to a new area over an hour away from my nearest family and friends.
i was excited about going (believing it would be similar to churches i had attended in the past) and thought it would be a good way to make new friends.. how wrong was i, no-one seemed to have any personality or sense of humour.. i tried inviting people round for a meal, boy that was an uphill struggle and i lived to regret it.. now, though i haven't met any of you, i feel as i though i know you and would feel totally comfortable in your company and would have got on like a house on fire if we had had a meal together.
the strange thing is all of you have or still do attend a kh and are sooooooooooo different.. discuss.
Thanks for all your replies. Something else I have noticed is that everyone on here seems to have gained more wisdom of people and life than the average person so surely that is a positive that has come from having once been a JW.

and that's why they are in the religion?.
i recall many jws over the years who were what i'll call "weird"---and looking back at it, many witnesses are "odd" and "different"..
I have to say I have sometimes wondered this. I suppose the way I would describe it is that they have all their buttons but some are undone.
They are probably more vulnerable and more susceptible to the talk of having their heart's desire in the New World.
However, maybe for this kind of person the KH is not a bad place to be because on the plus side they are told what to do which they probably need, they may not be as sensitive to all the politics that go on in the Organisation and therefore not upset by as much. Furthermore, maybe they wouldn't otherwise go out and they are probably given lifts to the assemblies and so forth.
Perhaps they are not the best people to go out in FS though.

Perhaps belonging the JWs has made them this way. I must admit if I had spent any longer going to those meetings and trying to please everyone I would begin to shut off to the world.

I remember one sister saying to me following the Tsunami that the KH hall there was spared and that everyone inside got out alive. Doesn't this prove that Jehovah is looking after his own?
My husband said to me later that if the news reported that everyone inside Tescos got out alive would that have been a miracle too?
I agree with what was said above anyone being killed like this is sad JW or not. It is just so annoying that when something good happens they all attribute it to being part of God's Organisation.

wasnt fredrick franz the only scholarly person (or somewhat scholarly) person who was 'somewhat qualified' to translate any type of biblical greek, hebrew, etc?.
Also, it is all very interesting theological debate but at the end of the day this shouldn't detract from leading a good principled Christian life. We all know what is right or wrong.
I always notice how rude some JWs are. There is no need, Christians should remain polite at all times. People are far more likely to listen to a polite, succinct person than someone who raves on incoherently.
Arguing over how many times a word has been removed or added to a bible does not stop someone being a Christian. In fact, quite the opposite.
Be far better to use the time and energy sorting out the paedophiles.

Several years ago the Elder who was also the Book Study Conductor came round to his house for a series of shepherding visits.
At the end of one of these such visits the Elder suggested the next visit date and asked if he could next come round then. My husband replied "you can do but I won't be here". The Elder wasn't happy and asked him "are you mucking me about?".
My husband was going to be on holiday on the date suggested.

To be honest if you want to go back so be it. What I am trying to say is that if you really believe that is right for you to go back then you should irrespective of what others think or how you are treated.
My husband was disfellowshipped aged around 14 for associating with is parents! Many years later his mother took steps to get him reinstated in the congregation near to where he was then living. However, he said he was always treated like a leper.
He remained a bachelor until he met me (aged 45). He said no witness would ever want to be with him (because of having been disfellowshipped) so he has never ever been out with one.
I attended meetings with him for 6 years and we were both then treated like lepers.
